“Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11 (NKJV)
The Café Ministry at Calvary Chapel Jacksonville is an important part of the church’s overall ministry. It works best when 16 to 18 people are serving in this ministry. With this many volunteers, it would require that each person would only need to serve in the Café once every 4-6 weeks.
Being a volunteer for this ministry offers flexibility. You can sign up just for Sundays, or just for Wednesday night Pot Bless or both if you are so inclined. We need at least two volunteers for each service.
There are a few things that the Café volunteers do routinely each time they are scheduled, including stocking/refilling items that are used such as plastic ware, cups, sugars and creamers. We also try to keep a “grocery” list of things we use as they begin to run low.
Sunday Café volunteers should arrive at 8:30 a.m. and remain approximately 30-45 minutes after service. Before service, volunteers will make coffee and prepare bagels and muffins, and occasionally other items that are to be served after the service. Before leaving, there is a small amount of clean up in the Café including the kitchen, cafe tables and floor.
Volunteers serving in the Café ministry on Wednesday nights should arrive around 5:30 p.m. to prepare the coffee, ensure that the Café is stocked with plates and utensils, put out serving utensils needed for the food that is brought in, and put out the food as it is brought in. We assist with the drinks, and clean up after the food has been served. This may include dish washing, and anything one would do after you have company for dinner at your own house. Volunteers are usually finished about 30-45 minutes after Wednesday service.
We ask each volunteer to try to find someone to cover for them if they are unable to serve on their scheduled day. If they are unable to find a replacement, they are to call Sheila.
Occasionally, Café volunteers are called upon to help with other events such as BBQ’s, Harvest Fest, and whatever event that may include food being served. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact:
